چکیده

WYSIWYM (‘What you see is what you meant’) is a user-interface technique which uses natural language generation (NLG) technology to provide feedback for user interactions. To date, the technology has been applied in a number of demonstrator applications, using customised, nonportable implementations. In this demonstration, we introduce a WYSIWYM library package, designed to be used as a modular component of a larger JAVA-based application. We show how the overall design of the package aims to support a range of possible applications using simple configuration options and JAVA subclassing, and illustrate the approach using examples ranging from the simplest proof-of-concept application to a complex web-delivered authoring tool for pharmaceutical leaflets.

Generation as a Solution to its Own Problem

Natural language generation technology is now ripe for commercial exploitation, but one of the remaining bottlenecks is that of providing NLG systems with user-friendly interfaces for specifying the content of documents to be generated. We present here a new technique we have developed for providing such interfaces: WYSIWYM editing. WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Meant) makes novel use of th...

An approach to the Optimization of menu-based Natural Language Interfaces to Databases

Natural language interfaces to databases (NLIDB) facilitate the user to state query to database in natural language. NLIDB then interprets the natural language query into Structured Query Language (SQL) to perform action on target database. Menubased NLIDB provides restricted set of elements on screen that are utilized to build natural language query. The latest menubased NLIDB’s use WYSIWYM in...
